Here are a couple of pages I used as workshop samples at my recent weekend of art journaling at Bodrugan Barton Mevagissey.
The inspiration for this page came from listening to an interview on radio 4 ‘s womans hour with Hadley Freeman ( A feminist author and newspaper columnist) the topic being discussed was how women perceive themselves, confidence issues and body image. Well worth a listen on I Player if you get a chance.
“The Peace of Wild Things” A beautiful poem by Wendel Berry, I just wanted to share.
Going with the flow. I used found poetry on this page.
Found Poetry can be defined in the following way
“Found poems take existing texts and refashion them, reorder them, and present them as poems. The literary equivalent of a collage, found poetry is often made from newspaper articles, street signs, graffiti, speeches, letters, or even other poems.”
I love the process of looking at old book pages and picking out words and phrases it is a constant source of inspiration of me.
The one thing that struck me during the course of the weekend was the openness of those who attended. Their willingness to launch into their journaling without any preconceptions of how or what the end result would be. The work produced as a result was personal, orignal, simply beautiful.
I have posted some of their work on the Just scrapbooking Gallery. You can pop over and have a look on this link.
The next Art journaling weekend will be in October for more information and to book please follow this link to my website.

Off on one of my domestic taxi runs, Moon Dance started to play on the radio. It made me come over all nostalgic for some reason , I can’t believe it was released in 1970. An absolute timeless classic from fellow country man Van Morrison
“Well, it’s a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
Neath the cover of October skies”
A lot of my Journaling inspiration comes from words – spoken , sung written and read . Recently I have been playing with them visually as well. Experimenting with different fonts and working in different sizes .
This is the first page of a Journal dedicated to music inspired pieces

Artists Journaling Workshop Stevenage 23rd February
This one has been a hard nut to crack!… I have spent several nights awake in the wee small hours thinking it through. (that is the easy part) and the mound of failed attempts have now been ear marked as collage fodder. Sometimes those messed up papers, if I cut into bits look so much better. Some elements even look good!

Alternative looks created using photo edit techniques
This is a good way of using one piece again and again. Try printing on different types of paper, acetate or tissue paper for a transparent /opaque look
